About

Andrew Rosindell M.P.

Conservative Friends of Hong Kong (CFoHK) was founded in April 2021 by Andrew Rosindell MP for Romford. A long-standing supporter of both Hong Kong and Britain he launched the group to defend the historic bond between our two nations.

For over 150 years Hong Kong was part of the British family. It became a beacon of freedom stability and the rule of law in Asia. These values are not just British, they are universal and they are now under threat.

The Chinese Communist Party has broken its promises to the people of Hong Kong. It has cast aside the international treaty signed with Britain and launched a campaign to crush democracy and silence dissent.

CFoHK exists to ensure the Conservative Party speaks out. We campaign for firm action against those responsible for the dismantling of Hong Kong's freedoms. We offer a voice to those who believe in liberty human rights and the defence of British values abroad.

"Hongkongers arriving in the UK have fled an oppressive Chinese regime which thinks it can bulldoze the international rule of law and human rights with impunity. We as Conservatives deplore such bullying and this new group demonstrates that Conservatives welcome Hongkongers and we are ready to support them in their fight for freedom." — Andrew Rosindell MP, Chair

At our first meeting on 21 April 2021 the group passed a motion to support democracy in Hong Kong to provide a platform for debate and to build strong ties between Conservatives and the Hongkonger community.

Our Patrons include:

  • Lord Patten of Barnes the last Governor of Hong Kong
  • Tom Tugendhat MP former Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee
  • Sir Malcolm Rifkind former Foreign Secretary

As Sir Malcolm has noted:
"We all in the UK wish to help the brave people of Hong Kong in their struggle to preserve their freedom. I am proud to be a Patron of the Conservative Friends of Hong Kong."

Britain made a promise to Hong Kong. CFoHK is here to see that promise upheld.
